Please Welcome Scott Gordon, soon to be the New Reno-Stead Airport Manager

August 20, 2021 by Editor

I want to let you know that the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority named my replacement this week.

I could not be happier to tell you that Mr. Scott Gordon will be taking over leadership of the Reno-Stead Airport on September 20, 2021.  I have known and worked with Scott for over 12 years, and he knows more about taking care of an airfield than I do (I am not sure where I just set that bar?).  He is an expert on airfield standards and how to meet those standards, and I know that he will continue to give our community an outstanding place to enjoy aviation.  He has a lot of experience working with different airport stakeholders to get things done that benefit everyone…staff, tenants, transient users, and neighbors included.

I asked Scott for a biography, and here it is:

Scott Gordon, Reno-Stead Airport Manager
Scott Gordon, soon-to-be Reno-Stead Airport Manager.

“Scott Gordon grew up in Minnesota enjoying the lakes and great outdoors of that state. It was during this time that a love for aeronautics started with the encouragement from an uncle in the industry. Receiving a BS in Aeronautical Technology from Arizona State University and a Master’s degree from Southern Illinois University in Aviation Administration, Scott has more than 25 years of experience working in the field that he loves.  He has worked for Aviation departments within the states of Illinois and Missouri as well as at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

But his true aviation home has been in Reno.  First employed with the Airport Authority of Washoe County in 1994; Scott’s first assignment was to assist the Stead Airport manager with the Air Races that year. Scott filled in as the acting Manager at Stead for a brief time in 1998/1999.  Currently an Airport Duty Manager, Scott has extensive experience in airport operations including construction activities, Part 139 airfield safety monitoring and inspections as well as emergency response procedures.

Scott and Patricia (Pat) met in Grad school and have been married since 1995. They have three sons who were born and raised in Reno. All three boys are currently attending the University of Nevada Reno. Scott and Pat value family time whether it be hiking, binge watching their favorite TV shows or traveling the country, visiting various amusement parks, and riding roller coasters.”

We are very lucky because Scott and I can work together for a seamless handoff.  Although he still has duties at RNO through September 12, he is spending some time here at RTS.  As we move through Air Races, you will see him more and more, and I will try to get him introduced to you as soon as I can.

I know that our future will have challenges, but Scott will meet them effectively.  A big part of that is because of all you.  Your positive attitudes, feedback, and passion for Stead have helped me both succeed and really have some fun. There is no doubt that you will support and share the same with Scott as he works with you to grow our outstanding airport.

Thanks, and as always, share this information with others who should know about this.  Let me know if you have any questions, and especially, if you’d really like me to bring Scott around to your hangar in the next few weeks.

Should you want to reach out to Scott directly… sgordon@renoairport.com will work.
