Annual Chapter Survey

The annual EAA members chapter survey is now live and can be accessed through the menu link above. Please take 5-10 minutes and fill out the survey. The EAA Chapter office uses the responses to help develop new programs for the chapters and pass the overall results as well as the chapter-specific results to each chapter leadership team. The percentage of chapter members who fill out the survey is also a rating criteria for chapter recognition awards..

SSA Convention Volunteers

As you probably know, our EAA Chapter will have a booth at the 2022 Soaring Society of America International Convention being held in the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in February. The menu link above will take you to more information about the booth, the booth schedule and provide you with a way to help out the Chapter by volunteering to work in the booth for one or more 4-hour shifts. It’s a pretty good deal – two members are in the booth so one can occasionally go wander the convention area. The last time the SSA convention was in town we were able to meet and talk with Jim Paine, one of the Perlan Project pilots who ultimately spoke at one of our Volunteer Appreciation dinners. That same year Dick VanGrunsven stopped by the booth to say hi and talk a while. You never know who you might meet…

Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

Our annual Chapter Volunteer Appreciation Dinner will again be held at Pinocchio’s Bar & Grill on South Virginia in Reno. We will start at 5 am, the food will be ready at 5:45 and our program will begin at 6:30. The program will start with a short recognition of your chapter leadership team and committee members who have served the chapter for the past year. Then we will introduce our guest speaker for the evening, Janice Cessna Clark, the only granddaughter of Clyde Cessna, the founder of Cessna Aircraft. Janice will be telling us all about the formation of Cessna and its growth through the early years, told with a view from the inside of the family using historical family documents and photos. It should be a fascinating presentation. Be sure to get your ticket early and reserve your seat for the event. Learn more by clicking on the menu link above.

Chapter General Meeting Day and Time Changes

During our last Chapter Board of Directors meeting we discussed the possibility of changing the Chapter’s general meeting day and time. The northbound traffic on 395/580 is getting worse and with the change back to standard time the 6 pm meeting time puts the travel to the meeting well after sunset.

The discussion at the board meeting was short and resulted in asking me to put the meeting day/time change to a vote of the membership at the next general membership meeting.

Las night we had ten chapter members attend the meeting in person and three more attended online. The discussion of the change brought up some alternate options – such as changing the day/time just during the period that standard time is in effect or just during the last and first quarters of the year (oct-Nov-Dec and Jan-Feb-Mar). The concern is that having a summertime meeting on Saturday morning will effect member participation at area fly-ins or chapter fly-outs.

The result is that for our February and March general membership meetings will be at 9 am on the first Saturday of the month. We will discuss the change again in March and see if the membership wants to go back to Thursday nights. We are in negotiations with other Reno-Stead organizations which use the terminal to make sure that there are no conflicts with scheduling the meeting.
