Everybody Had a Great Time at the Young Eagles Rally!

Our Young Eagles Rally on April 9th started out chilly and with marginal winds but turned out to be a great day. The winds were close to right down the runway and were from a direction that didn’t cause more than a few light bumps on the Young Eagles flight route. As the morning progressed the sun heated up the air and the winds reduced to just a light breeze.

Our five great pilot volunteers flew 38 kids on Young Eagles flights, 29 of them for the first time. The kids were split almost 50/50 between boys and girls (18 girls, 20 boys).

The Reno Radio Control Club came out in force to support the event and brought great models for display. They also had a Radio Control model flight simulator operating that taught the kids about controlling an RC plane in flight. The simulator ran continuously for entire time of the Rally – it was a great addition to the event!

The Reno RC Club was also promoting the EAA Chapter Young Eagle Build & Fly Program that will be conducted in June. Up to ten lucky kids will participate in a 5-day summer camp during which they will not only learn about aviation but will also build and fly an electric RC aircraft model kit. Check out our Build and Fly Program Page for more information.

Here are just a few of the photos taken during the event:
