On May 6th Bob Morgan, Director of R&D at Scaled Composites took time out of his busy schedule to fly up to Reno from Mojave, CA and give a presentation to Chapter 1361.

He brought with him a beautifully organized presentation covering the early history of Scaled, how he joined the engineering team, the phenomenal projects that he and the company have worked on and some of the projects currently underway. Scaled is primarily a one-off, rapid development, aviation-oriented prototyping company that evolved from the well-known Rutan Aircraft Factory.

Scaled Composites has a phenomenal amount of engineering and manufacturing capability, evidenced by it’s successes with Voyager, Spaceship One, White Knight One, Spaceship Two and White Knight Two (which once tested were turned over to Virgin Galactic) and many other projects the public rarely hears about.

It was a great presentation that generated several excellent questions and comments from the audience. The meeting probably would have gone on another hour or so if Bob hadn’t had to leave to catch his flight home.
