Anyone who has made the fall pilgrimage to Reno, Nevada, will instantly recognize this scene. The pale hills of the high desert become almost the same color as the concrete ramp of the race plane ‘pit’ area at the old Stead Air Base. Shining warbirds and well polished race planes fill the ramps and the background music played by Rolls Royce and Pratt & Whitney. It is an intense few days, but then that is what it takes so that everyone can wait until next year…
